THE RENAISSANCE
Fair'N Green
Fair'N Green Certification
FAIR'N GREEN Certifies Belgium’s First Winery The international expansion of sustainable viticulture continues: Château Bon Baron in Dinant has become the first Belgian winery to achieve certification under the FAIR'N GREEN sustainability standards.
Global trends such as climate change and the growing interest in sustainable products are influencing vineyards in Belgium. In response, Château Bon Baron explored various approaches to sustainable viticulture, ultimately choosing the FAIR'N GREEN certification.
At Château Bon Baron, we believe that sustainability is essential for the future of our planet.
"We strive to create harmonious, authentic wines that reflect the unique characteristics of our terroir in a green, respectful, and fair manner for all living beings."
By sharing our knowledge and experience with FAIR'N GREEN and its members, we are committed to further minimizing our CO2 emissions and environmental impact through skilled labor, both traditional and modern technologies, and renewable energy sources.
A Thoughtful Methodology
15 hectares of vineyards and 14 different historic grape varieties.
FAIR'N GREEN was launched in 2013 as a joint initiative between wineries, research institutes, and other stakeholders. The system emphasizes holistic sustainability (in business management, environment, and society).
It was designed from the start for international applicability and reach. With Château Bon Baron’s certification, Belgium joins other countries, such as France, Spain, and Israel, in implementing the FAIR'N GREEN system.
The introduction of FAIR'N GREEN to a Belgian winery demonstrates that the system can be successfully applied in all European wine regions. Other topics, such as the protection of local species and biodiversity projects in the Meuse Valley, have also been intensely discussed as part of broader sustainability efforts.
FAIR'N GREEN has now certified over 130 wineries across ten countries. In the future, the organization aims to engage more wineries in Belgium and other European regions to adopt this certification system. FAIR'N GREEN is not only focused on awarding certifications based on strict criteria but also on the dynamic and international development of certified wineries toward a sustainable future.
Since 2000, the Château Bon Baron winery has grown steadily to become one of Belgium's leading wineries.
